Lofofora

Lofofora Lofofora is a French heavy metal band from Paris. Formed in 1989, it is composed of Reuno (vocals), Phil Curty (bass guitar), Daniel Descieux (guitar) and Vincent Hernault (drums). The name of the group is a reference to the peyote whose scientific name is Lophophora williamsii>. Lofofora is considered one of the pioneers of rock fusion metal (saturated guitars, rapped phrasing, punk flights) in France>.

It was not long after the meeting of Phil Curty (bass) and Erik "Ragout" Rossignol (drummer) within The Hammers band that the impulse of a new style of music asserts itself. The quartet's first concerts take place in 1990-1991. Lofofora signed, in June 1994 after several months of negotiations, with Polygram which makes it possible to finance an album recorded and mixed by Daniel Weber (Treponem Pal, Young Gods) in October, with the studios of the Forces motrices in Geneva. Between January and May 1996, Lofofora composes the titles of his second album. At the end of 2001, Lofofora is rehearsing for a new album. In 2014, the band released their eighth studio album.

It was not long after the meeting of Phil Curty (bass) and Erik "Ragout" Rossignol (drummer) within The Hammers band that the impulse of a new style of music asserts itself. Tired of this group, the meeting of Reuno in Antibes during a concert of Iggy Pop led to the foundation of Lofofora, in September 1989. After the rise of the latter in the Paris region, the band began to play with Karl Shneider (guitarist). Their influences range from hardcore punk (Bad Brains, Red Hot, Dead Kennedys, The Exploited, Fishbone, Fugazi or The Ramones) to the precursors of the hip-hop movement (Grandmaster Flash, Niggaz With Attitude or Public Enemy). The first years are marked by rehearsals at the drummer (recordings of models and concerts (video) and at the studio Luna Rossa (Paris, 13>) which lead to the design of a dozen tracks.First separation of the guitarist Karl, replaced by Pascal Lalaurie>.

The quartet's first concerts take place in 1990-1991. The meeting with the drummer Edgar Mireux of the MST group, at the end of 1992, during a rehearsal in the fridge, allows the group to stabilize and make his first models recorded by Chambinator. The integration into the management structure Sriracha Sauce>, founded by Bruno Ponge and Laurent Yvon - initially for the group Les Coquines - allows the quartet to repeat at the ephemeral Hospital (artistic pool of the 18> arrondissement of Paris) and to realize 50 concerts in the year 1993, the first taking place on February 1 in the squat Moskova, Mecca of alternative rock Paris. The Moskva squat saw groups as different as the Moskokids, the Komodo Varans or Bernadette Soubirous and where Reuno lived for almost three years. The meeting with Patricia Bonneteaud is also decisive because it allows them to benefit from the Rock Action and Initiative Fund (FAIR).
