Mahavishnu orchestra Mahavishnu Orchestra is an American band founded by guitarist John McLaughlin in the early 1970s>. The group fuses jazz and rock, following precursors like the Lifetime (en) < / span> Tony Williams (former Miles Davis drummer) (with John McLaughlin and Jack Bruce (ex-Cream)).

John McLaughlin first produced his own album, My Goal's Beyond, with Billy Cobham, Charlie Haden, Airto Moreira, Dave Liebman, Badal Roy, Jerry Goodman and Mahalakshmi.

My Goal's Beyond is John McLaughlin's third solo album (after Extrapolation and Devotion). Originally published in 1971 by Douglas Records in the United States.

For the Mahavishnu Orchestra's first disc, The Inner Mounting Flame, published in 1971, John McLaughlin surrounds Rick Laird (bass), Billy Cobham (drums), Jerry Goodman (violin) and Jan Hammer (keyboards). This disc achieves a perfect fusion of Moog keyboards, guitars and violin, all supported by an amazing drum game by Billy Cobham. John McLaughlin is inspired in his life and music by Sri Chinmoy Spiritual Guide.

The ensemble made the following album in 1973, Birds of Fire>. The same year, released Between Nothingness and Eternity>, a live album recorded at Central Park in New York.
