Meat Loaf (stage name, literally French: "meatloaf"), born Marvin Lee Aday in Dallas Texas on September 27, 1947, is a rock singer and an American actor.
His album Bat Out of Hell released in 1977 is one of the best-selling albums of all time with 43 million copies. It includes the title Paradise by the Dashboard Light. In the distribution of the Broadway musical The Rocky Horror Show in 1973, he appeared in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) as an Eddie. In 2001, he officially changed his civil status, to be called Michael Lee Aday . His daughter Pearl Aday is the wife of Scott Ian Anthrax's guitarist.
Meat Loaf is the first child of Orvis Wesley Aday, a police officer, and Wilma Artie Hukel. Aday was an alcoholic and spent a long time on a multi-day trip to the bars. Meat Loaf and his mother were eating Dallas bars in search of Orvis to bring him home. Because of this family situation, Meat Loaf was largely raised by his grandmother.
Although there are several explanations for his stage name, according to the artist's official website, the name "Meat" would have been given to him first by his father when he was two years old. His school buddies would later have turned him into a Meat Loaf, thus respecting his official initials, M.L.
