Sadist is a progressive Italian death metal band from Genoa. The group ceased its activity in 2000 after the release of the album Lego, but reformed in 2007 on the occasion of the release of his eponymous album. His music includes guitar and keyboard solos as well as influences from jazz and oriental music.
The group was initially formed in 1990 as Necrodeath, and at the instigation of Tommy (guitar, keyboard) and Peso (drums) who were looking for other musicians to complete the training. A few weeks later, Andy (bass) and Fabio (vocals) join the band. Sadist catches the attention of the Obscure Plasma Records label as he plays their demo during local concerts. The demo, Black Screams, was released in September 1991 and sold for nearly 2,500 copies.
The band then signed a contract with Nosferatu Records for two albums, and released in "> Above the Light in 1993>. Andy is soon replaced by Chicco on bass while Zanna takes the place of Fabio singing. At the end of 1993, the band appeared a video for the title Sometimes They Come Back of the album Above the Light and plays concerts in France and the Netherlands.
Sadist first plays Carcass in early 1994 and opens sometime later for Samael in France. During the tour, the group is already working on the next album and entered the studio in Bidford-on-Avon in May 1995. "Tribe" was released in February 1996 , distributed by Toy's Factory in Japan, and Sun Rising Records in Europe. The band went on tour in France, Italy and the Netherlands until June and released their second video "Tribe" . Sadist then participates in an album tribute to Iron Maiden by recording a version of Wratchild . The end of the year is less pleasing: the drummer Peso leaves the group to mount a solo project (Oinos takes his place) while Zanna and Chico are respectively replaced by Trevor and Andy.
