Steven John Wilson , born November 3, 1967 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, UK, is a British multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, generally associated with the progressive music scene. Although primarily known as the leader of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, Wilson has been involved in several other projects, and currently produces music only as a solo artist.
Steven Wilson was born November 3, 1967 in Hemel Hempstead, England. He is attracted by 4> art from the age of eight. His childhood is rocked by the musical culture of his parents, followers of progressive music. As a child, his parents want him to learn guitar but he does not like it. At eleven, he found a classical guitar, made of nylon, and already engaged in sound experiments with a summary material (microphone, tape recorder) manufactured by his father engineer.
Between 1984 and 1986, Steven Wilson records with Altamont groups (en) and Karma and thanks to the success of Porcupine Tree, some of these compositions have resurfaced.
In his experience with these bands, his musical style is oriented towards progressive rock, psychedelic and avant-gardism. Then comes the birth of Porcupine Tree and No-Man who will open the door to success.
