Story of the Year is an alternative, post-hardcore and sometimes post-grunge rock band formed in 1995 in St. Louis, Missouri>. The band was originally called Big Blue Monkey. It changed its name to Story of the Year in 2002 after marketing their EP titled Story of the Year on the independent label Criterion Records, and after having realized that a group of blues already used the name of Big Blue Monkey. On March 8, 2013, the group is formed again.
The group formed initially under the name Big Blue Monkey in 1995, composed of John Taylor on vocals, Ryan Phillips on guitar, Greg Haupt on guitar, Perrys West on bass and Dan Marsala on drums> . They release two EPs.
In 2002, the band changed its name to Story of the Year because a group of blues already bore the name Big Blue Monkey. That's when John Taylor, Greg Haupt and Perry West are replaced by Philip Sneed, Adam Russell and Josh Wills respectively. At the same time Dan Marsala stops playing drums and singing. The band released their first EP Story of the Year under their new name.
The band signed an agreement with Maverick Records in 2002, then recorded and released their first album, Page Avenue , in September 2003. The first single from this album is entitled Until The Day I Die , written by singer Dan Marsala. The second single, Anthem Of Our Dying Day , is a clip directed by Mr. Haha of Linkin Park. The third single is entitled Sidewalks . All singles are released in 2004. Page Avenue is now sold to more than 900,000 copies worldwide. The title And The Hero Will Drown is featured on the soundtrack of the video game Need for Speed: Underground>. The band goes on tour with Linkin Park at the Meteora World Tour in 2004 with the other P.O.D. and Hoobastank. They were also at the Vans Warped Tour. The CD / DVD Live In The Lou / Bassassins is marketed on May 10, 2005. It becomes a success and is certified gold by the RIAA the end of 2005, indicating that they have sold more than 50,000 copies>.
