Teräsbetoni is a Finnish power metal band founded in 2003 singing only in Finnish. They are the authors of the very catchy title, Orjatar. The group is selected to represent Finland in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in which it is ranked 22> with 35 pts with the song Missä miehet ratsastaa.
Teräsbetoni means "reinforced concrete" in Finnish. Jarkko Ahola, Arto Järvinen, and Viljo Rantanen meet in 2002 and decide to form a group. Jari Kuokkanen joins as a half-time drummer and later becomes an official member. Rantanen has the idea of the name of the group Teräsbetoni. Teräsbetoni recorded his first songs in 2003. They are published on the band's official website in the same year under the titles Teräsbetoni, Teräksen varjo and Maljanne nostakaa>.
The group is popularized in the underground scene, and subsequently beyond. Fans sign and circulate a petition to sign Teräsbetoni to a label.
In 2004, Teräsbetoni gave his first concert and a live version of the song Taivas lyö tulta was added on the band's website. At their first shows, they played covers of Rainbow in the Dark by Ronnie James Dio, and Metal Warriors by Manowar. At the end of 2004, the band signed a contract with the label Warner Music Finland and the recording of the single Taivas lyö tulta started in December 2004. The single was published on February 2, 2005. A week after its release, it reached the premiere position of the Finnish rankings, and is broadcast on the radio>.
Recordings of the album Metallitotuus begin in January 2005, and the album is released on April 6, 2005. It reaches the second place of the Finnish rankings>. Another single from the album is Orjatar, which is accompanied by a video clip. Taivas lyö tulta is chosen as the theme for the Karjala Tournament. Metallitotuus is certified platinum in Finland in the year with over 33,000 copies sold. In June 2006, the second album, Vaadimme metallia, is published. The interest for Teräsbetoni is growing at this time outside of Finland, and the group plays in particular at the German festival Wacken Open Air 2005. Teräsbetoni also participates in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. On March 1, they are appointed with 38.9% of the votes. They represent Finland with the song Missä miehet ratsastaa>. On March 19th, Teräsbetoni publishes her third album, Myrskyntuoja, which reaches the top of the Finnish charts>.
