Textures is a Dutch progressive metal band from Tilburg, in North Brabant. Formed in 2001, the group counts in 2016 five studio albums. Textures plays mathcore, adding some elements of metalcore, death metal and thrash metal, with a slightly more 'hardcore' voice compared to other bands. On their first album, Polars, Textures was inspired by ambient sounds, which are found much less on their album Drawing Circles.
In 2001, Jochem Jacobs, guitarist Bart Hennephof, drummer Stef Broks, bassist Dennis Aarts and keyboardist Richard Rietdijk formed the group and were joined by singer Pieter Verpaalen who participated in their debut album, Polars , published in the Listenable Records label. The album is entirely self-produced, mixing and recording is done by Jacobs and Rietdijk, and the cover is done by Hennephof.
The name Textures is used by Stef Broks to indicate the use of the many sound layers in their songs, the musical mix, and the different personalities of the members.
The singer Verpaalen is replaced by Eric Kalsbeek for their second album, Drawing Circles , published on October 7, 2006. The song Millstone, extracted from the album , is also entitled to his video clip. For the promotion of the album, Textures goes on tour with bands such as The Ocean, Gojira and Arch Enemy and culminates on a European tour with All That Remains and Misery Signals, as well as being nominated in three categories at Live XS Awards.
