The Kooks

The KooksThe Kooks is a British indie pop group from Brighton, England. Formed in 2004 by Luke Pritchard (singer/guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Paul Garred (drums) and Max Rafferty (bass guitar), the band remained the same until Rafferty left in 2008. He was then replaced by Dan Logan, then by Peter Denton who joined the group in October 2008. At the beginning of 2010, Luke Pritchard announced the departure of Paul Garred, due to a nervous problem in his arm, but he returned later in the year. He was finally replaced definitively by Alexis Nuñez in 2012. Their music being mainly influenced by the British Invasion movement of 1960, and by the post-punk of the new millennium, The Kooks defines itself as a " pop  group". The Kooks has experimented with a number of different genres, such as rock, Britpop, pop, reggae and ska. Signing with Virgin Records just three months after his training, The Kooks released his debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006. The album was a great success: four times platinum in one year in the United Kingdom, platinum certification in Australia and twice platinum in Ireland. The Kooks also won the Best UK an Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2006 and won a Brit Awards nomination for the single She Moves in Her Own Way. Their second album, Konk (2008), ranked number one on the UK Albums Chart and sold 65,000 copies in one week, winning a gold record in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Kooks recorded their third album, entitled Junk of the Heart, released on September 12, 2011. The original members (Garred, Pritchard and Harris) of The Kooks were all students at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in 2003. The idea of forming a group came from Pritchard while he was shopping with Garred. Speaking on MTV, Garred explains: "We had a vision in which we saw the image we wanted for this group. So we bought clothes and hats>. " Sharing the love for the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Police and David Bowie, Pritchard invited Harris and Rafferty to join the group, which was then a musical school project>. Pritchard said: "We met on a whim ! Without a demo of their work, Garred and Pritchard then looked for a concert and according to Garred, they had the opportunity to play their first concert because the manager liked their hats. " We went looking for a concert, without a demo and we were answered: you can't have dates if you don't have a demo, but I like your hats so I'll schedule you a concert>. ", says Garred. Anyway, the band couldn't play that night because they were recording their first demo.
