The Sins of Thy Beloved is a Norwegian gothic metal/doom metal band from Bryne. He is one of the most popular in the Gothic style known as the "beautiful and beautiful beast ">, and one of the pioneers alongside Tristania and Theatre of Tragedy. The group was formed in November 1996 around Glenn Morten Nordbø, Arild Christensen and Stig Johansen. The group was originally called Purgatory>, but they decided to change their name to something less common. Anita Auglend and Ola Aarrestad quickly joined the band and recorded their first demo All Alone in January-February 1997. Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland joined the band just before they recorded their second demo Perpetual Desolation in 2000>. During the next tour, Anita Auglend, Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland tired of travelling and left the band in 2001. A live performance, Perpetual Desolation Live, was recorded on CD and VHS in 2001, although it is not distributed worldwide. The group has been dormant since the departure of its three members. Pete Johansen leaves the group to play the violin in the Tristania group. In 2002, the band announced that they will play again with Anita Auglendhave on May 23rd during a performance at the Jren Musikkfestival>. The band made several other formation changes in November 2005 with Maiken Olaisen of The Scarr taking over the role of keyboard player replacing Ingfrid Stensland and Mona Wallin as singer. The group recruits Anita Auglend again in 2007>.
