Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band. The band was created in 1996 by singer Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Their music is described as symphonic metal, although their first albums, like Enter , are categorized as gothic metal >>>>>>>> >. During an interview, den Adel described it in the symphonic rock genre with varied influences.
After the release of their first album, Enter , the band became known to the Dutch underground scene. It was not until 2001 that it became popular with a wider audience, with the single "Ice Queen" Mother Earth , which ranks second>. From then on, the group won the Conamus Exportprijs> for four years in a row. Their following albums The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything begin in the first place of the Dutch music rankings. In 2008, they released a live DVD and CD, Black Symphony , recorded at the Metropole Orchestra. This series follows in 2009 with An Acoustic Night at the Theater .
The group's fifth album, The Unforgiving , was released in March 2011, alongside a series of comics and short films. On November 13, 2012, the group celebrates its fifteenth year of existence during a huge event called " in"> Elements at the Antwerp Sports Palace. Their sixth album, Hydra , is on sale January 22, 2014 in Japan, January 31 in Europe, and February 4 in the United States. February 1, 2019 comes out Resist , the group's seventh studio album>.
In 1996, guitarist Robert Westerholt and singer Sharon den Adel, then longtime friends, founded the group after leaving their former band, The Circle. The Circle renames itself to travel and publishes an album entitled Embrace before separating>. They will be joined by Jeroen van Veen on the bass guitar, Martijn Westerholt on the keyboards and, after several other percussionists whose passage is ephemeral, Ivar de Graaf. They are quickly offered a contract by DSFA Records, which allowed them to work on their first album.
