Edguy

Edguy is a German heavy metal and power metal band from Fulda, Hesse. They are influenced especially by Iron Maiden, and their music is close to groups like Helloween, Gamma Ray or Running Wild.

Since the beginning of his career, the band has sold more than two million albums worldwide.

Edguy was formed in 1992 by students Tobias Sammet, Jens Ludwig, Dominik Storch and Dirk Sauer. Edguy's name is the nickname they gave to their math teacher. In 1994, the group released two demos, Evil Minded and Children of Steel < / span>. These tapes are sent to several labels, which will reject the group as seeing no lucrative potential in them. They later publish a first album "unofficial" , Savage Poetry , in 1995. They signed shortly after with the AFM Records label, which offers them to reissue Savage Poetry . The band rejects the proposal to release a new album, Kingdom of Madness , published in 1997; but drummer Dominik Storch leaves the band. 1998 saw the release of a second album, Vain Glory Opera , with their friend Frank Lindenthal on drums. This album helps Edguy become more popular thanks to the participation of Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius) and Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian). The band is joined by drummer Felix Bohnke and bassist Tobias "Eggi" Exxel later the same year, allowing Tobias Sammet to devote himself to singing.

In 1999, Theater of Salvation is published. That same year, the singer Tobias Sammet conceived the idea of ​​a Avantasia project, a symphonic metal band composed of singers and musicians known from rock and heavy metal scenes.
