Nokturnal Mortum is a Ukrainian black metal band from Kharkiv. the group was formed at the end of 1991 under the name of Suppuration. In 1995, the band released their first studio album entitled Twilightfall . It was followed, a year later in 1996, by a second album, Lunar Poetry and a third, Goat Horns, in 1997.
December 31, 1991>, Varggoth (guitar, vocals), Munruthel (drums) and Xaarquath (bass) form Suppuration, death metal band>. Ecclesiastical Blasphemy is recorded in 1992 in Kharkiv, and distributed in Europe. Suppuration thus becomes one of the first underground metal bands of the former USSR to be distributed internationally. Edward Pichugin joined Suppuration as a guitarist the same year, followed by Sataroth who left Smile of Death, to replace Vargotth vocals, the latter remaining guitarist. Unspeakable Journey Into Subconscious World is recorded in 1993, still in Kharkiv. In April, Pichugin leaves the group; he is then replaced by Wortherax who leaves Scarecrow. Cosmic Flight Around Astralspher is then saved, but will never be produced.
