Kings of leon

Kings of Leon is an American alternative rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Formed in 1999, the band is composed of three brothers (Nathan, Caleb and Jared Followill) and a cousin (Matthew Followill), the band's name comes from Nathan's father and grandfather, Caleb and Jared, all called two Leon. They are considered to be the southern counterpart of Strokes , offering a mix of southern rock, garage rock, post-punk, country and blues.

The original musical style of the band is a mixture of southern rock and blues, which is gradually developing to incorporate elements of alternative rock and arena rock. Kings of Leon achieved success in the UK with Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards in 2008, and three Top 5 albums. Their third album, Because of the Times, also reached first place. After the release of Only by the Night in September 2008, the group achieved success in the United States. The singles Sex on Fire, Use Somebody and Notion reach the first place of Hot Modern Rock Tracks. Their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, west released on September 24, 2013. Their seventh album, WALLS, is released on October 14, 2016.

The brothers spend much of their youth traveling in the southern United States with their father, a preacher of the United Pentecostal Church, and their mother who teaches them when they can not go to school. They are constantly on the road. Their parents divorced in 1997, their father resigned from the United Pentecostal Church, and after various jobs, the brothers moved to Nashville in 1998. They formed a group in 2000 with their cousin Matthew. Their music is influenced by their religious culture, the Nashville scene and their southern roots (Jared and Caleb were born in Tennessee, Nathan and Matthew in Oklahoma).

Nathan and Caleb are inspired, at this time, mainly Rolling Stones and The Clash. Their little brother, Jared, was more in the vein of Pixies and The Velvet Underground. When he and his cousin Matthew move to Nashville in 1999, Kings of Leon is formed. They name their group after their grandfather, who will die in January 2014>.
