Pat martino

Pat Martino (Pat Azzara) is an Italian-American jazz guitarist and composer born August 25, 1944 in Philadelphia (United States of America).

Pat Martino made his first arrangements at the age of 12 and became a professional in 1961.

It is by his father, Carmen "Mickey" Azzara, singer in local clubs of Philadelphia having taken some guitar lessons with Eddie Lang, that he will discover the jazz and will learn the music in good hands: Denis Sandole for the harmony, lessons with johnny smith (this famous legato) and some meetings with Wes Montgomery. We can find his father whose stage name "al martino" and which is the equivalent of Frank Sinatra in The Godfather 2 (the singer of marriage).

Pat Martino's style is inimitable: creative and incisive, a staccato phrasing, very fast, and harmoniously rich, make him one of the main guitarists of bebop like Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery or Jim Hall.

On the sidelines of a solo career, the albums "east!" "bayina" "footprints" ... Pat Martino has always continued a sideman career with Erick Kloss, Willis Jackson
