Vangelis

Vangelis ( Βαγγέλης , diminutive of Evángelos, to pronounce Vanguélis), Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (in Greek: Ευάγγελος Οδυσσέας Παπαθανασίου ), born March 29, 1943 in Vólos, Greece>, is a musician and composer, known in the fields of New age and electronic music, and film music author.

His best-known compositions are the music of the film The Chariots of Fire (which received the Oscar for best music in 1981), the soundtrack of the film Antarctica, as well as the entire soundtrack of the film Blade Runner and 1492: Christopher Columbus.

He also composed the anthem of the 2002 football World Cup.

Like the French Jean-Michel Jarre, Telex Belgians and Germans Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, Vangelis is recognized for being one of the pioneers of electronic music in the 1970s.
